Volume 13, Issue 1, (2026) Jurnal Plastik Rekonstruksi
We are proud to present Volume 13, Number 1 of Jurnal Plastik Rekonstruksi (2026), an issue that captures the evolving sophistication and clinical depth of plastic and reconstructive surgery in Indonesia. This edition brings together five rigorously selected articles, each addressing critical challenges across congenital, burn, craniofacial, and complex wound reconstruction, and collectively reflecting a discipline that continues to advance in both technical mastery and patient-centered care.
The issue opens with a refined approach to unilateral macrostomia repair in infancy, where the integration of a buccal flap and multi Z-plasty technique demonstrates how surgical innovation can transcend conventional limitations. The emphasis on restoring early oral function alongside aesthetic integrity affirms the importance of precision and timing in the management of congenital anomalies.
Burn surgery is represented through two complementary perspectives that together illuminate both acute and long-term dimensions of care. A systematic review on the use of the tumescent technique in tangential excision provides compelling evidence for reducing intraoperative blood loss, reinforcing its role in enhancing procedural safety. In parallel, an exploration of adult reconstructions for burn contractures sustained in childhood offers a sobering reminder of the lifelong burden of burn injury, positioning quality of life as a central outcome in reconstructive decision-making.
In craniofacial surgery, a structured comparison between Fisher’s and Modified Millard-Onizuka techniques for unilateral cleft lip repair delivers important evidence on surgical outcomes and patient satisfaction. By situating technical choice within measurable clinical impact, this study contributes substantively to an enduring surgical discourse.
The edition concludes with a demanding case of auricular reconstruction following necrotizing fasciitis secondary to malignant otitis externa in a diabetic patient with scabies. This report underscores the complexity inherent in reconstructive practice, particularly in medically compromised patients, and highlights the decisive role of meticulous postoperative wound care in determining surgical success.
We extend our deepest appreciation to the authors for their scholarly rigor and meaningful contributions. We further recognize the indispensable role of our editors and reviewers, whose critical insight and unwavering commitment uphold the scientific integrity of this journal. Their work forms the intellectual foundation upon which every issue stands.
It is our expectation that this edition will not only inform current practice, but also provoke critical reflection and inspire continued advancement in the field.
